Amos 7 vs 7-8 tells us so much about God. We could feast on this Holy Scripture for days as it forces us to repent greatly for our Dunning-Kruger syndrome which acts like we are gods, but are fools caught up in the illusion of our delusions of knowledge.
HOW?
God shows Amos incredible visions of looming destruction because of Israel’s continuous return to paganism, sin, corruption, and disobedience to God. But, upon the insistence of Amos, begging God to not destroy by locusts and fire, God relents twice, but in Amos 7 vs 7-8, shows Amos WHY He has to discipline the people. History fills in the blanks of Israel forced into exile under very cruel pagan empires, which God later destroys for their obsession to self-glorify and invent “gods” to oppress people and do terrible atrocities.
THAT ASIDE……
Notice Amos 7 vs 7, “… there was a plumb line IN HIS HAND.”
Not a priests hand, or a president’s hand, a king, a so-called spiritual leader, THE PLUMB LINE (the measuring line) is IN GOD’S HAND.

We, as people who all struggle with internalized god-complex love to claim our theories, ideologies, academia, opinions, so-called cultural beliefs, neo-tribal politik, church slant, and false religions, as the yardstick of validation for why we are as we are.
BUT, God clearly is showing the whatever we THINK we are building in our own understanding is absolutely NEVER going to measure up to GOD’S PRINCIPLES and predestined path of best-for-humanity.
We can study whatever, and be acclaimed by humans as genius, or spiritually informed, but ultimately if it isn’t GOD and HIS PLUMBLINE (The Holy Bible accurately taught) that is the yardstick by which we measure agency, morality, and humanitarian ism against we are nothing more than puffed up displays of egocentricism- creatures trapped in god-complex.
To quote: ‘A god complex is a pattern in which an individual believes they have great power, ability, infallibility, influence, and are superior to others. It often refers to behaviors associated with narcissistic personality disorder or mania.’ – https://www.verywellmind.com/what-is-a-god-complex-7112056
Verse 8 nails the coffin, “I AM (GOD) using it to show.”
We are not the standard by which we measure goodness, righteousness, justice, and truth by, it is GOD ONLY AND EXCLUSIVELY.
In our illusion of delusions of knowledge, we can be filled by such self-glorifying grandiosity that we don’t even notice we are suckling on dopamine, endorphins, and seratonin as the measure of rightness (if it feels right it must be right, right?).
Amos 7 vs 7-8, should get us onto our knees, begging God in tears to destroy everything in us that sets itself up, deludedly, against God. We should be begging God to help us be willing to willing to give up our god-complex, and help us to surrender to His Way so that the coming predestined, AND FOREWARNED destruction of humanity (deservedly so) can escape us.
MESSIAH KING JESUS IS COMING BACK, and when He does He isn’t coming as the Suffering Servant, or Sacrificial Lamb.
This time when Jesus Returns He is coming with war as THEE COMMANDER OF HEAVENS ARMIES to once and for all destroy evil and those who delight so stupidly in it despite the countless red flags that show us where we end up, albeit only a tip of actual hell.

Amos 7 vs 7-8 is such a beautiful picture of God’s Heart. God doesn’t want destruction for us, hence holding back twice at the request of Amos, but so too a picture that God’s Patience has an end which is preset by Him.
GREATER STILL, is that God has given us THE PLUMBLINE- The Holy Bible to teach us, warn us, help us understand, and help us fall in love.
And to add the cherry on the cake gives us The Holy Spirit after making THE WAY THROUGH JESUS, to confirm Himself and the truth of The Bible, and WE EACH CAN ACTUALLY EXPERIENCE THEE ONLY LIVING GOD FOR OURSELVES.
I can only encourage you, that having Jesus in your heart changes how you see the world, and man it is absolutely mind-blowing when we discover how deluded we actually were.
JESUS LOVES YOU.
